To reach the Zollverein visitor centre, use the new escalator that leads directly up to the 24 metre level in the former Coal Washing Plant of the Zollverein Coal Mine, Shaft XII. The Ruhr Area Tourist Board additionally offers events and tourist offers throughout the entire Ruhrgebiet.

The visitor centre also doubles as the foyer of the Ruhr Museum and, besides housing the ticket office and cloakroom, is the starting point for all guided tours of the museum, the Zollverein World Heritage Site and the Denkmalpfad Zollverein “Path of Coal”. It will be extended and turned into the RUHR.VISITORCENTRE for the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 and provide visitors with further information and offers about the Ruhr Metropolis together with the Portal of Industrial Heritage (Portal der Industriekultur).
