Ruhr Museum

The "Café Kohlenwäsche" is located on the 24m level of the Coal Washing Plant. The café leads directly to the entrance of the Ruhr Museum. In the midst of restored original machines, cake, snacks and coffee specialities are served during the Ruhr.Visitorcentre's opening hours, daily from 10 am to 8 pm, in the winter until 6 pm.

On Sundays an impressive panoramic view from the rooftop of the Coal Washing Plant is waiting for visitors. From 11:30 am until 2:30 pm guests can enjoy the view of the entire Ruhr area from the Erich-Brost-Pavillon, forty metres above ground, while partaking of the "Family Buffet" brunch at their reserved table.

Equally spectacular is the visit to the "Casino Zollverein", open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30 am to 12 pm. The impressive rooms of the former Compressor Hall are the site of one of the most renowned restaurants in the Ruhr area which has balanced an advanced international cuisine with regional elements. The "Casino Zollverein" has an event location and in the summer a large beer garden.

The bistro "Butterzeit!" is located nearby hall 12 directly at the car park A2. The "Butterzeit!" was known as the miner's break when he could refresh himself for his shift with his mother's sandwich. Today guests of the "Butterzeit!" can be pampered by delicacies and snacks in the 200-square-kilometres bistro or outside in the beer garden. From there and from the gallery guests can enjoy an impressive view over the Zollverein terrain. Whether coffee party or birthday or christmas celebrations under the winding tower: the bistro "Butterzeit!" is always looking forward to its guests, daily (closed all day Tuesday) from 10 am to 6 pm in the summer, and from 10 am to 5 pm and by arrangement in the winther months.

Several hundred metres from the museum the café and restaurant "Die Kokerei" ("The Coking Plant") is located in the former coking plant of Zollverein. The impressive industrial architecture and the exterior grounds with a beer garden in front of the striking backdrop of the battery of coke ovens guarantee that the café will remain in the visitor's memory long afterwards. A spacious dining hall in the upper storey also permits group catering of typical Mediterranean cuisine and Ruhr area dishes.

In close vicinity to the Zollverein are the "House of the Five Maidens" and the "Trattoria Paolo".
