Admission free

The reduced entrance fee is granted to:

  • Recipients of unemployment benefits (ALG I & II), social assistance and benefits under the Maintenance Act (USG) with proof.
  • Participants in the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ), Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ) and Federal Volunteer Service (BFD) with proof of participation
  • People with disabilities with a degree of disability of 70 percent or more with official identification. With the mark "B" in the official ID, an accompanying person receives free admission.

We offer vouchers in our online ticket store and at the counter on the 24 meter level of the Ruhr Museum on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein.

Our Annual Passes can also be purchased at the counter and make an excellent gift. The annual pass gives you or the person you are giving a gift free admission to our permanent exhibition, the Portal of Industrial Heritage and all special and gallery exhibitions for one year (from the date entered). It costs €50 and must be presented at the counter each time you visit. There you will receive your respective day ticket.

To receive the free admission, please come to the counter on the 24-meter level of the Ruhr Museum. There you will get your day ticket after registration or presentation of the valid proof.

We offer gift vouchers in our online ticket store and at the counter on the 24-meter level of the Ruhr Museum at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Without waiting and without fees: In the store you book tickets for exhibitions, public tours and vouchers of the Ruhr Museum in advance. To book the ticket, you need an e-mail address and a printer to print the ticket. Alternatively, bring the ticket digitally on your smartphone or tablet. You can pay securely with Visa, Mastercard, EC card, giropay and paypal.

Waiting times in front of the entrance or the cash desk are simply bypassed. You go with the ticket directly to the entrance of the exhibition or to the meeting point of the booked guided tour.

Each tour listed in the calendar can also be booked as an individual group tour. The group tours are designed for 20 people, school groups for 15 people. The duration is 1.5 hours. Simply arrange the time, exhibition, group size and topic with our visitor service. We will also provide you with culinary tips and suggestions for other program points during your visit to the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Exciting quizzes for families with children aged 6 and up await in every special and gallery exhibition and in the permanent exhibition of the Mineral Museum. They lead to the highlights of the exhibitions and give everyone a good overview of the exhibition theme. 30 to 45 min. in German and English (Gallery and Mineral Museum in German only) available free of charge at the Ruhr Museum counter   on the 24-meter level and in the Mineral Museum.

Parking Designated parking spaces for people with disabilities are available in the A1 and A2 and C parking lots on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Entrance Ruhr Museum The entrance for wheelchair users to the Ruhr Museum is located in the north foyer at the front of the Coal Washing Plant. An elevator provides barrier-free access to the regional museum, to the counter / cash desk on the 24-meter level and provides access to the various exhibition levels.

 

Assistance dog In principle, animals are not allowed in the exhibitions or in the entire building. Assistance dogs are exempt from this rule.

 

WC A wheelchair-accessible WC is located on the 24-meter level next to the entrance to the permanent and special exhibitions.

 

Tickets For visitors* with a degree of disability of 70 percent or more, the reduced admission price applies. If a "B" is entered on the disabled person's ID card, admission is free for an accompanying person.

Miscellaneous Wheelchairs / pushchairs are available free of charge for visits to the museum and can be obtained from the Ruhr Visitor Center if required by telephone.

Arriving by bike
With the "RuhrtalRadweg", the "Deutsche Fußballroute NRW", the "Rundkus Ruhrgebiet" and the "Themenroute Essen erleben Süd", several signposted bike paths lead past Lake Baldeney. At the Kupferdreh train station, simply turn off to Kupferdreher Straße. Bicycles can be parked in the courtyard behind the museum.

On the A52 from the direction of Düsseldorf and Essen / A40 to exit 27 Essen-Haarzopf. Editorial and commercial recordings For editorial photo, film and audio recordings, prior arrangement and written permission from the Ruhr Museum is required. For this purpose, please contact our Press Department. Commercial use of recordings of any kind is not permitted.

 

Outdoor recordings and Zollverein The Zollverein Foundation is responsible for all other buildings and the outdoor area. Photographs, sound recordings and films that are not used exclusively for private purposes require the written permission of the Zollverein Foundation.

Both directly on the grounds of the Zollverein World Heritage Site and in the surrounding area within walking distance, there is a whole range of varied gastronomic offerings. You can find the most popular offers here.

The main entrance is the escalator at Werner-Müller-Platz. Barrier-free elevators are located at the north foyer of the Ruhr Museum.

Food and drinks are not permitted in the collection and exhibition rooms. It is also prohibited to carry liquids in these rooms. Our checkroom or lockers on the 21 meter level are available for storage. Please use the seating facilities on the 24 meter level to accommodate small children. Gastronomic offers are distributed over the entire Zollverein site and can be found here.

For private purposes, photography without flash, tripod and selfie stick is permitted in the Ruhr Museum. For editorial photo, film and audio recordings, prior arrangement and written permission from the Ruhr Museum is required. For this purpose, please contact our Press Department.

 

The Zollverein Foundation is responsible for all other buildings and the grounds. Photography, sound and film recordings that are not used exclusively for private purposes require the written permission of the Zollverein Foundation.

Our checkroom on the 21 meter level and our lockers are available for depositing jackets, coats and other clothing and bags during your visit.

 

Larger bags (20 x 30 x 10 cm), backpacks, umbrellas, walking sticks and back carriers for children must be left at the checkroom or locked in the lockers with a €1 or €2 coin as a deposit. Alternatively, you can create a four-digit code for the use of the locker.

 

For safety reasons, we reserve the right to regulate access for strollers on busy days. Baby carriers and strollers can then be borrowed free of charge from the checkroom.

 

No liability is assumed for the checkroom and the contents of the lockers.

Both at the colliery and in the surrounding area, which is within walking distance, there is a whole range of varied gastronomic offerings. You can find an overview here.

Free parking is signposted at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site. For the Ruhr Museum, we recommend parking lotA1 and A2. When visiting the Coking Plant, use parking lot C. At the coking plant, there is the Zollverein parking deck, for which a fee is charged, in addition to parking lot C. There are 4 charging spaces (22 kW fast charger) for e-cars here.

Here, the current exhibition catalogs, posters and other publications of the Ruhr Museum as well as souvenirs and literature about the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein and the Ruhr region are available.

Benches are available in all exhibitions and on the 24 metre level. In addition, folding stools are available free of charge in the permanent and special exhibitions.

Changing tables in the Ruhr Museum are located on the 21 metre level in the women's restroom and on the 24 metre level in the barrier-free restroom.

There is free open WLAN in the Ruhr Museum. A charging station for cell phones is located in the Ruhr Visitor Center on the 24 metre level directly opposite the counter.
